About 12% of District 41 children access Special Education, from those who need speech therapy to those with profound disabilities needing highly individualized, comprehensive programs.

In compliance with state and federal law, District 41 provides free, appropriate special educational services for eligible children who may have a physical, mental or learning impairment that adversely impacts educational progress.

The district is one of seven member districts of The Cooperative Association for Special Education (CASE), which allows it to provide a broader range of services than it could acting alone.

Assisted Instructional
For students with profound intellectual impairments.

Guided Instructional
For students with mild to moderate intellectual impairments.

Modified Instructional
For students with severe learning disparities or mild intellectual impairments.

Emotional Disability
For students who display significant emotional or behavioral impairments.

Early Childhood Special Education
For students between 3 and 5 who are disabled and display significant developmental delays.

Physically Handicapped
For students with physical handicaps that interfere with educational performance.

Learning Disabled Resource and Emotionally Disabled Resource

For students with mild learning or behavioral disorders.

Visually Impaired
For students with visual impairments who have academic difficulties.

Speech and Language
For students with speech or language delays that are not developmental in nature.
Other programs which are not part of Special Education but address special needs include:

Reading/Math Improvement
For students who need individual or group tutoring.

Pre-Kindergarten At Risk
For children between 3 and 5 who are at risk for academic failure.

ENL (English as a New Language) and Bilingual
Students identified as having difficulty with English in the classroom are provided with appropriate services. Bilingual classes are provided if there are more than 20 students in a given school for whom a specific language other than English is their primary language.
