26 portables for growing enrollment; building referendum may be ahead
In fall, 26 portable classrooms will house 500-600 students. A task force has recommended that D41 build a school to accommodate enrollment growth, and D41 is considering asking voters for a tax increase to fund it. There will be a public meeting for discussions on possible sites for a new school.
Student performance
84% of D41 students meet or exceed state standards according to the 2004 School Report Card; the state average is 62.4%. All D41 schools made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) in compliance with the No Child Left Behind law.
Diversity thrives in our schools
Nearly 7% of D41 students are English language learners, speaking among them more than 25 languages, including Spanish, Vietnamese, Polish, Urdu, Swahili, and Farsi. Some foreign students come to us literate in several languages, others may be experiencing school for the first time. Students whose first language is not English receive instructional support depending on their needs in compliance with state regulations. As diversity in language, socio-economic factors and special needs increase, D41 adjusts its programs and resources to give students the programs and services they need to succeed in school and in life.
