Specialist Services
Each school has specialists who focus on gifted services, math and literacy. These professionals work with teachers and pupils to assess and meet a continuum of needs to help each child succeed.

Special Education
D41 provides a free and appropriate education to students with special needs in full compliance the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). D41 belongs to the Cooperative Association for Special Education (CASE); member districts work together to provide a complete continuum of services and D41 may accept children from other districts or place children in other districts. A few children are placed in private schools at D41’s expense, if that is the only way to meet their needs. A parent group called Special Education Resource Committee (SERC) offers programs and networking for parents. Our buildings comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Before & after school programs
D41 partners with both the Glen Ellyn Park District and the YMCA to make before- and after-school care available on a fee basis. Contact the building principal for information on a specific school.

Lunch
At all elementary schools except Churchill, students may bring lunch (milk provided), or go home. Since nearly all Churchill students are bused, they remain at school for lunch. There is no hot lunch service. For student safety, we ask that you plan ahead and let the school know whether your child will be going home for lunch. At Hadley, all students eat lunch at school in the cafeteria. Students may bring a sac lunch or purchase lunch; the menu is on the Hadley Web site.

Getting to school
If possible, parents are encouraged to establish safe walking procedures with their child, or walk with them. Children who live 1.5 miles or further, or who would encounter a hazard such as a highway or railroad crossing, are eligible for free bus transportation.
